The Irish Register of Herbalists (IRH) was founded in 2003. Our membership includes traditional herbalists, naturopaths, medical herbalists and master herbalists.
The art of herbal medicine is based on an amalgam of ancient tradition, clinical experience and modern scientific research. Herbal practice involves the use of seeds, berries, fungi, seaweeds, roots, tubers, vines, mosses, lichens, leaves, bark, fruits or flowers to treat and prevent ill health using a variety of preparations from quality-sourced whole herb ingredients such as tinctures, herbal teas, decoctions, syrups, poultices, infused oils, essential oils, salves, ointment or creams.
Our main purpose is to support the growth and development of the herbal tradition in Ireland.
The IRH remit is to educate all and everyone it makes contact with on the safety, efficacy and importance of herbal medicine as a vital form of health care either through seminars, workshops, publications or through the media.
The IRH remains focused on the importance of ecological issues and sustainability.
The IRH works alongside other professional groups and organisations, locally and internationally, to promote and preserve the herbal medicine tradition.
